Mixed Metal Chain

This weekend I was stuck home with a cold, so I turned my foggy head towards jewelry. I'm getting ready for Christmas shows. Cut out some interesting pictures and made an idea board. From that, I went to work.

This weekend's theme was mixed metals.
I took gold and silver and copper and gunmetal black chains
and created necklace and earrning sets.

Turned out very nice.

This next one had a gold elephant pendant.

I love the heart on this one!

The pendant on this one was actually an old earring!
It's great how jewelry can be recycled!!!

This heart almost looks like it came from a piece of old silverware...

Another golden pendant...

I did make this multistrand purple gemstone necklace set.
The pendant is from Gaea.

Adelaide's Vintage Home and Garden Store

This afternoon I went over to visit Adelaide's Vintage Home and Garden Store here in Greensboro, NC.  This is my favorite store in Greensboro, a haven of painted furniture and garden wonders.  One of the first things I saw today was this darling cabinet painted cornflower blue.

There was more blue, in flow blue dishes and darker blue cabinets.

I've had my eye on this green table for some time now.

These avocado hand-painted end tables took my breath away. Wish I had another bedroom!!!

Lots of little treasures for your home are there...

I'm CRAZY over these adorned mixed media plates!

How about some RED???

More blue dishes... You can't have enough blue dishes!

There is a new cute area they are calling "Babyland", filled with sweet nothings for your sweet baby!

More painted furniture!

I am so honored that Adelaide carries my Orions Rose Jewelry in her shoppe. Here are the latest items
that I placed in her store!

These are beaded lanyards, great for hospital workers and those who have to wear ID badges!
Wear your ID in style!!!

Here are the new eyeglass holders!!! Use these with your reading glasses!!!

If you live near Greensboro, come by Adelaides!!!
Live Simply.
Live with beauty.

Pockets of Peace

I awoke this morning feeling at peace.
I read in "Streams in the Desert" about the power of stillness.
Here is an excerpt of a poem by Freda Hanbury Allen~

"Be all at rest, my soul, for rest is service,
To the still heart God does His secrets tell;
Thus will you learn to wait, and watch, and labor
Strengthened to bear, since Christ in you does dwell.
For what is service but the life of Jesus,
Lived through a vessel of earth's fragile clay,
Loving and giving and poured forth for others,
A living sacrifice from day to day."

Today in Church, I read chapter 12 of Rick Warren's The Purpose Driven Life.
It was about your friendship with God.
I had a Stake President once who taught us, "Make the Lord Your Friend."
Today I am grateful for family and friennds and my Heavenly Friend.

During my trip to New York City, I visited the Met Museum and saw lovely Christian works of art.  I found this stunning painted of Joan of Arc by Jules Bastian.

If you look closely, you can see an angel
guarding close by amid the leaves of the tree.

Here is the display of the Antioch Silver, discovered in this
early Christian center of worship from the time of the early church.

A Celtic Cross...

Amid all the rush of mid-town Manhattan,
I found a pocket of peace
in a Catholic Cathedral.

I saw this statue of the mighty arch angel Michael,
who is Adam.

And this saint of roses...

I took time to think and pray
and to light a candle.
Peace.

Slow down.
Be still.
Rest.
Wait.
Listen.
You might just hear
the sound of angel wings
fluttering nearby.

Food in New York City

Well, if I could describe the food in New York City in one word,
it would be BREAD!!!
Oh my goodness! My friends fed me fresh bagels everyday.

We went to Chinatown one night. This place we ate had dollar bills for wallpaper.

I discovered sesame noodles made with peanut sauce.

The fried rice wasn't bad, either.

Then there was the New York Pizza...

There were fruit stands on the streets.

There were lots of sweets. Chocolate shops in midtown and sweet shops on Long Island!!!

There was no dieting in the Big Apple!
WHY WOULD YOU???

Living my NYC Reality Show Dreams!!!

A few years ago, I would have scoffed at the idea of watching reality tv. Now, like most America, I'm hooked. During my trip to NYC last week, I got to go to locations where three of my top reality shows are filmed.
First, my fav--Project Runway!
In New York City, FASHION RULES, and I was welcomed by wonderful shops with great dresses displayed in the windows.

There was even a store named after me!!!!

We went to Parson's School of Design where Project Runway is filmed. You couldn't go inside--it's a school with tons of security.
But it was fun just seeing it!
Hey, where was Tim Gunn?

Next, we dashed over to KLEINFIELDS wedding dress store, the home of the reality series
SAY YES TO THE DRESS!

This is what you saw as you entered the store's shopping area.

Okay, let me just say here for the record....
I've NEVER seen such beautiful dresses in my life.
They take your breath away.
Seeing them on TV doesn't translate.
The first rack of dresses I saw were high-end designer gown
priced at $35,000!!!

The detailing was unreal. Here are silk roses cascading down the back of a dress.
I died.

Some dresses had this cris-crossing thing going on. I've seen it on the show,
but in real life, it's ten times more lovely.
Note the bejeweled dress in the background.
On TV, I thought these overly sequined dresses looked cheap.
In person, they are divine!

My other favorite fashion reality show is the Rachael Zoe Project!

On season one, during NY Fashion Week, she took a now famous (or infamous?) 20 minute shopping trip to New York Vintage! This is a cozy vintage dress store on 25th street.

They wouldn't allow me to take pictures inside the store,
but imagine trying on
A vintage Dior gown!

There were endless shops...
High end

And then something more like my speed.
Yes, there is a GIANT TJMAXX in Manhattan!!!
I died again!!!

Ladies, it was TEN TIMES bigger than your regular TJ Maxx stores.
I got lost in the handbag department.
A sea of handbags...What a dream come true!

My friend Paula and I came home from one day in Manhattan
exhausted but fashionably fulfilled.
We were greeted at the door by Lizzy!!!

Now, here is a fashionable pet!!!
